Learn to Love Your Camera

April 27th, 2015

Happy Monday, friends!

I’ve been so lucky to capture beach portraits for new and returning families for years (18 to be exact!), so in celebration I wanted to add a spin to my “standard” sessions. For months I have been dreaming up a new way to interact with my clients and Outer Banks vacationers on another level, and today I cannot wait to share exciting news from Beach Productions!

Starting this Spring, I will begin teaching beach portrait sessions! We know vacationers coming to the Outer Banks seek fun, different activities and I believe this just the solution. In one hour you’ll learn to love your camera, and capture perfect, luminous beach portraits. By teaching you how to use your camera, the best approach for lighting, and 101 basic techniques you’ll walk away feeling confident to shoot your own beach portraits. This is something that no one else offers on the beach, and we hope you are just as over-the-moon for this new venture as we are!

Here’s the skinny on pricing…while we have two packages for you to choose from, both will leave you feeling like a professional photographer.

  • Package One: $400
    • Includes: One hour lesson on learning to use your camera (please bring your manual!), lighting and 101 basic techniques.
  • Package Two: $1000
    • Includes: One hour lesson on learning to use your camera (please bring your manual!), lighting, and 101 basic techniques. I will also capture your beach portrait (posed of family or documentary) for 15-20 minutes, and you will receive a CD of the photos I shoot.

Wedding Wednesday: Ring Shots

April 1st, 2015

One of my favorite parts of my job is hearing couples’ proposal story and seeing the bride’s bubbly face when she shows off her new bling. My second favorite thing: ring shots! Capturing these symbols of eternal love is completely magical, and while I adore the traditional ring styled in a bouquet, there are many other elegant ways to show off your sparkle! Here are a couple of my favorite ring shots over the years:

What to Wear for Your Beach Portraits

March 23rd, 2015

Days leading up to family beach portraits I always am asked, “What should we wear?” Today I am going to give you lots of great suggests when it comes to your best look when getting your photo shot by the ocean.

First and foremost, I always suggest wearing colors that contrast with the golden sand. Think about wearing sea glass colors of blues, greens, rich browns, and creams paired with khakis. We’ve always loved the idea of having families wear varying shades of blue tops with khaki bottoms!

It’s important to always remember to not let deciding the “perfect” color to cause you stress. Black is a great color choice that pops beautifully in photographs!  On the opposite end, should you fancy lighter shades of colors always choose cream. White is too stark during the summer, and shows off sunburn. Cream is  soft, beautiful and the perfect touch for your beach portrait session. 2015-03-22_0002

Last but not least, never hesitate to add personality to your photos! Whether you decide to dress by a certain color palette or allow everyone to free-style their outfit, remember the reason you’re getting together to take this photo: to capture memories on your Outer Banks vacation.

Outer Banks Lifeguards

March 9th, 2015

Up with the sun – lifeguards make a big impact on new and experienced beach-goers alike. We’re not sure if it’s the countless hours they spend under the scorching sun or the fact they serve to protect; one thing’s for certain, there are countless reasons we have so much respect for these guys and gals. This ultra-fun shoot shows off the light-hearted side of these lifesavers, and we are thrilled to share a few of our favorite photos!
