The "IN" Thing

Trash the Dress

Date: August 14th, 2010 | Category: Barefoot Engagement, Get Inspired, The "IN" Thing, Trash the Dress

This couple was married at the courthouse but never had a wedding, and certainly no wedding photos.  They wanted it all, What can I say, I love to do these kinds of shoots, where the bride wants something unique and creative and wants to get the dress dirty and get wet.  This very hot humid mid summer day was perfect for it.  At the beginning of this shoot, we started at Nags Head Pier, using the shade from the pier for some beautifully lit shots, then we got wet, including myself and a camera, well worth it.

Jessie and Billy are getting married in April and were looking for something unique and different for their engagment.  The engagement shoot lets you get to know your photographer, start to feel comfortable with them and get to know their style, AND it can be whatever you want it to be, have fun!

Idea’s in the magazines – they are endless

There are so many ideas in magazines, how can you narrow it down?  It's a good idea to check out local magazines like The Outer Banks Wedding Associations Outer Banks Bride Magazine and the Outer Banks Wedding Guide Magazine, but there is also a new magazine from the Knot focusing on North Carolina Beach Weddings.  The Outer Banks has become one of the top 5 destination wedding locations.  This article below is from BRIDES national magazine May 2010 with fantastic vintage political ideas that you can bring into a beachy theme.

Everything but the mainstream-A New Years Wedding

Rebecca and Zack choose to married on New Years Eve at sunset and have their party last through the evening.  From the groom and groomsmen wearing converse sneakers to the trash the dress special gift Rebecca made for her future husband, this rocker couple did not go by the books - and their event turned out incredible! Their photographer Julie Dreelin suggested that they do most of their photographs beforehand, so they had a special meeting, then the bridal party came out to entertain them and photographer Julie Dreelin with more group and candid photographs while sipping on champagne.  Thank goodness they did because they got off to a late start and the sun set right as they were saying their vows.  This breathtaking wedding venue Abilena Mansion right on the sound in New Bern, NC has attracted quite a response from traveling brides.  This bride was from hours south but chose this location because it is centrally located and right on the sound.

Trashing your Wedding Dress

Date: November 18th, 2009 | Category: Fashion, The "IN" Thing, Trash the Dress, Uncategorized

Rebecca's fiance was not into the engagement pics so she decided to use her beach visit as a sexy trash the dress shoot.  We suggested doing what she did and go to the local shop "Baree Station" for this $20 dress that she used.  It worked perfectly and didn't break the bank.  The gaudy necklace and bracelet she wore worked perfect to set the scene for the photos.

The Fashionable Engagement Shoot-Free

Date: November 10th, 2009 | Category: Barefoot Engagement

Your photographer, with a full package, should offer a free engagement shoot to get to know you.  That's one less thing to worry about the wedding day and great rememberance photos as well.  Why not use it for something unique like this couple-hot!-Julie

Jessica and Ben- a do it yourself fashionista couple

This wedding took place in Duck, NC at one of our favorite wedding houses, the Saltaire House - although it is not on the ocean, the house is located perfectly between the ocean and the sound so that you can get both types of shots. At this wedding, the photographer, Julie Dreelin, took the bride and groom across the street from the house for some beautiful sunset shots before coming back to party.

Jessica knows style!  Even during her toast her maid of honor said she thought Jennifer would marry a fashion model from tv.  She chose Ben, a fashionable surfer instead, and what a couple they make!  Jennifer went for the new style of "net"  for her veil and accessorized her own boquet with a beaded belt she found- we loved it!  This bride and groom belong in a fashion mag, wouldn't you say?

Meghan and Daniel-Sept 20th

"It's all about the photos" Daniel touted to me when I first arrived at this wedding.  Meghan had a smaller budget, went small in areas that weren't as meaningful and went big in places that were, like decorations by Rene Landry Style and Photography and photography by Julie Dreelin's Beach Productions.  We love the background for the ceremony she put up that doubled as a back to a mini "photo" booth with chalk and board that they played with all night taking funny photos - Meghan's own idea of bringing boots and ballons to the beach made the entire beach session turn out like a fashion shoot!
