From the Bride:

OK! WOW! SO I've been on the phone with my sister and we went over these photos over and over! YOU DELIVERED EVERYTHING I HAD HOPED FOR AND THEN SOME! You captured all the joy and fun and happiness and goofiness and seriousness and love that all these people have for one another, not just Glenn and I but the whole special group. It feels like this was how I wanted the pictures to turn out and you made it real! I cannot wait to see the rest, what a completely satisfying moment for GLenn and I!

I have to tell you how homemade this wedding was. I think you'll enjoy it. My husband to be did my hair, for his first time and got it perfectly. I honestly believe the deeper coloring made it photograph better and made my eyes pop bluer in the pics! It just worked! And you were right, the lighting was beautiful!

I called to order flowers a few months ago...the bill was going to be ridiculous...so I called Harris Teeter and asked if I could order flowers there and make my own. They let me! So...even though the other florist places were way cool, since I had done flowers in a past job, I couldn't overpay by a few thousand dollars....seriously, so I did them. They had dreamy flowers, really, for all the flowers and enuf leftover to fill the bathtub it cost less than the quotes I got for the bride bouquet alone. Truly! So we pooled our abilities, (Glenn and I made the pies, ironically he was a pastry chef in another life and could have made a fabulous wedding cake, he did both his sister's cakes, but we like pie better..) He tortured me with mock up wedding cakes to sample and pick from only to decide we liked fruit pies best! Glenn is a mad good cook, so he knew to ask the right questions for the caterers and they were FANTASTIC!

All in all it was a wedding with tons of personal touches throughout- and then adding the cast of characters these families unite, photo -op heaven.

Extremely satisfying, I'm just so pleased already I cannot tell you! I think they are so fun and so well done- they speak volumes for your talent and should be shared. I feel like the emotional happiness was captured- and everything came together to really make them extra special- mother nature included! Just exceptional. - All My Best, Heidi

7/19/10

I love the Sanderling in the Outer Banks, NC for any size wedding, so I was excited to be called into this intimate affair there in July. There were only 6 of them, the couple, parents and a nephew. I arrived to the groom trying to figure out how to put his flower one, she was there helping him, beforehand, the most sweet and innocent girl you have ever seen. Her demure of southern charm set the stage for this very short ceremony of laughs, hugs, and true true love. When I was taking the photos I mentioned they couldn't take their eyes off of each other, she laughed and in her southern drawl said, "Yes, we are SO in love" giggling, they headed off to the beach, hanging out for ten minutes insistent on not one single posed shot, truly "hanging out" with each other. If only everything in life couple be this simple and perfect.

We love Carova, it is past Corolla on the Outer Banks of NC. The only way to get there is by sand road, which makes it deserted and remote. The untouched sand, gorgeous greenery and long deserted beaches make me remember why I moved to the Outer Banks. This couple stayed 10 miles up this road, NOBODY was around.

Carova Beach, North Carolina

This barrier beach covers the upper stretches of the Outer Banks, North Carolina, and is the most undeveloped of an already spartan beach chain. Part of what keeps the region mellow is the lack of paved roads, with Highway 12 stopping north of Corolla. Four-wheel drive is a must, as the only route to these secluded U.S. beaches is a ride on the sand or a primitive system of dirt roads connecting vacation homes in the wooded interior. Drive slowly to see the wild horses (some are descendants of shipwrecked Spanish mustangs) that roam the protected dunes.

Although it doesn't match the above photos, I just had to put in this tid-bit. The groom wanted a Ken and Barbie look for his cake topper. Rene Landry from Blooms went for it, using pink sparkles for bathing suits. This Ken and Barbie cake topper photo made it to her Naughty Florist website, show us more, Rene, we love it!

From the Bride:Tom and I both grew up with a love of the ocean so it only made sense that the most important day in our relationship take place on the water. Planning a wedding in this setting almost takes care of itself. With the ocean as your backdrop, not much else is needed! I would call our theme Beach Chic. Less was definitely more in our case. It was simple, natural and beautiful.

May 22nd 2010

Truly, the images from your wedding are the lasting elements of your day. Photos of your precious day will live on and be passed down through the generations of your loved ones. When all the champagne is poured, the cake is eaten and a drunken Uncle Fred is peeled off the dance floor and carried home in a wheel barrel, your images will be the tangible visions of your special day. That said, should you spend all your time with the photographer and none with your family and loved ones? No, of course not. With some planning and a considerate and efficient photographer, your pictures can be taken quickly with a minimal amount of time lost with your guests.

When planning the events of your day with your coordinator or photographer, designate as many images with the family and bridal party prior to the ceremony as possible. The time leading up to the ceremony can be hectic and planning these shots may be a challenge, but gathering as many photos ahead of time will save you time and headache after you say "I do". Have the bridal party shots taken ahead of time, all the bridesmaids with the bride and the groomsmen with the groom and include the families in these shots as well. After the ceremony, the main images will be the bride and groom together with their respective families and then the bridal party. Be sure your photographer spends some time with just you and your groom and take some unposed, creative shots incorporating your surroundings. During this time, have the caterer bring champagne, for the ladies, beer for the men and snacks for the bridal party to enjoy and refuel. Be sure to grab a bite yourself as you may not see food again for a few hours. A cocktail hour should be scheduled for your guests during this time period and be sure to account for your attendance at the cocktail hour as well.

Do not be afraid to photograph yourself with your groom prior to the ceremony. Ask your photographer for a private meeting with your groom just before the ceremony begins. Be sure that no one else knows this is happening so they do not try to participate in the pictures (think overbearing mother of the bride here). Be sure your bridesmaids are aware though, you may need a little support if the emotions are overwhelming. Your bridesmaids will also be the gatekeepers to ensure that its just you and your groom for the next few minutes. Ask that your photographer just step into the background and photograph your initial seeing of one another and your moments together as a quiet observer and ask that they not plan or pose any of the shots.

Another consideration when hiring your photographer is whether or not they shoot video as well. In today's merging media platforms, photographers now have the capabilities of shooting video as well, all using the same camera. If you want some video of your day, but do not need to actually watch the entire, and rather long, video of your ceremony and reception, consider hiring a photographer who incorporates both using a multimedia approach to documenting your day. Also bear in mind that with these new technologies emerging and being used by videographers as well as photographers, if you hire both video and photo professionals to document your day, you are likely to have three to five people filming you, all day and all using the same cameras. That is slightly beyond overkill and will effect the emotions and flow of your special day. Finding someone who can document both photo and small amounts of video presented in a multimedia DVD or online video using only a couple cameras and possibly an assistant may save your wedding day from becoming a paparazzi trainwreck.

Reach within your creative being and unleash that inner art Diva that is just dying to splatter her artistic energy all over your wedding. You have one, she's hiding there just below the surface and every time you pick up a Martha Stewart magazine or a Real Simple, she screams- "I can do that- but I'll do it better than that stuffy Stewart!"

At a recent wedding in Corolla, N.C., a creative bride unleashed her inner-art Diva and created a masterpiece that was a delight to photograph. Every detail had her personality and creativity dripping from it and falling into her guests hearts and memories. She printed a large tree with empty branches and asked the guests to place their thumb print on their new "Family Tree". Her desert table was filled with peanut-buttery shot glasses, sans alcohol. Shot glasses filled with dessert mousses filled the table surrounding her wedding cake. A soup bar was established, using ceramic mismatched bowls as a wonderful appetizer for guests. Funnels of beautiful scrapbook paper attached to sticks were filled with french fries so guests could nibble these greasy delicacies and not have to wipe their hands on their expensive wedding attire. Even the table settings were covered in her creativity, using a symbol from the night she met her future husband. Bowling pins adorned the table tops as the happy couple met at a bowling alley through mutual friends.

No matter what your budget, tapping into your inner-art Diva will create a lasting memory for you and your guests. Be sure your photographer is aware of all this special creativity and captures the details prior to the beginning of the festivities.
